Danielle Porter (Saturdays, 1pm – 3pm) went onto the streets of Chorlton and got members of the public to each write a single line of a sonnet about Chorlton. Not knowing what other lines people had written, this is the final result…
A Sonnet for Chorlton
I got a double yolk egg sizzling on the carhood this Summer.
With the bright cracking coals of Chorlton.
Ah, the sundance kid glistening all in Oasis morning.
Where have the Zap lollies gone.
You could peel my armpits off and put them on toast.
Shards of beer gardens drown our memories.
Can you feel your arms burning yet? Ahh; let em burn.
Bring on the the water pistols and the sprinklers.
And on the sixth day God created Manchester.
Too many bars and not enough time.
Don’t just book it, Thomas Cook it.
Drinking cider in the beer garden.
The temperature’s hot and I’m getting sweaty.
The winter had inhaled and held its breath for good.
